Guwahati: Assam Police killed two suspected National Democratic Front of Bodoland-Saoraigwra (NDFB-S) cadres while trying to rescue a businessman in Umrangsho, Dima Hasao on Saturday. along with Meghalaya Police and Assam Rifles Assam Police Gunned down these two, reports said.
According to sources, the deceased militants were suspected to be members of the NDFB-S. They were identified as Prasenjit Mosahary and Sobin Boro. The team also recovered weapons from the location.
Sources informed that a few days back a businessman identified as Mahendra Rai from Meghalaya’s Khliehriat was abducted by few men which were suspected to be militants. Following this incident, a search operation was launched. While during the search operation a specific input was received about the businessman being kept near the Umrangsho at the Assam-Meghalaya border and based on this input a team of Assam Police, Meghalaya police and Assam Rifles started to search the area. As soon as the team reached the exact location, the suspected militants started to fire at the team.
The operation team took cover and they too started to counter the attacks by the militants. After almost an hour of heavy fire, two militants were gunned down while some others managed to escape. Police also succeeded in rescuing the businessman.
