‘Celebration of Peace’, an evening to celebrate Meghalaya’s way of life through music -is set to take stage on the January 30, 2018 at Polo Grounds, Shillong.
The event presented by the Indian National Congress promises to be a festival exalting Meghalaya and it’s culture and tradition through its youth.
Rahul Gandhi, President of All India Congress Committee, will be a part of the exuberant evening as the Chief Guest.
One can also expect a glimpse of the CM Mukul Sangma expressing his love for music, like he always has and most of the time showcases the talent. (Expecting an impromptu performance by him will not be a far-fetched dream)

But we’re not even half way there with all the good news. Great music is the first expectation anyone would have from an evening like this. Well, we have the band line-up and let us tell you, your senses will thank you.
Headlining the evening is the very coveted birthchild of Shillong -Soulmate. The blues rock band consisting of Rudy Wallang and Tipriti TIPS Kharbangar started their humble beginning in 2003 by performing at ‘Roots Festival’ and are now a worldwide sensation.
Khmih Children’s Choir
Formed in 2011, Khmih is a group of extremely talented musical kids. They’ve won hearts at the national level being a part of ‘India’s Got Talent’ and their sheer brilliance in performance is a pleasure to all senses.
Born in Shillong, Benedict Hynniewta is a flutist while also being a visual artist by profession. He keeps the beautiful Khasi tradition of playing the flute alive in his melodious rooted pieces of art. His performance is definitely going to be one to watch out for.
Lamphang is a Khasi Folk Artist acclaimed for his powerful and mesmerising voice. He is an internet sensation with his originals and covers on Social Media.
He has two albums to his name Rympei Baieid I Mei and LA RYMPEI.
The band was formed in 2011 when the trio first performed in the first season of Meghalaya Icon. Since then, they’ve taken the blues scene by storm like there’s no coming back.
Their original Ramblin’ from their Live EP was voted as one of the Top 10 Singles of 2015 by Rolling Stones.
Leading the Reggae battalion from the east are Dewdrops. Formed in 2007 when a group of musicians got together, Dewdrops looks at spreading good vibes, peace and happiness through their music. Another band nurtured by the soil of Shillong, they look forward to spark a revolution of love and friendship through nothing else but music.
Formed in 2009, Empirical Tribe is a hard rock band from Shillong. Drawing inspiration from varied sources and basis individual tastes and style of every member of the band, they deliver a genre of hard rock while serenading words about life and society.
Other artists performing in the evening include Colors, Da Thymmei and Cultural Troupes. To top all of the good music up DJ Elton will be in the house too.
Celebration of Peace is definitely up with a promising start and we find no reason why you would not want to be a part of the evening. An assurity of great music, and a celebration of the state, it’s people and their beautifully rooted way of life.
