- Around 15 youth’s volunteers of ATSUM closed down a zonal education office
- The students’ body clarified that it was not against the process of digitization
Imphal: ATSUM- All Tribal Students’ Union Manipur has closed down all the Zonal Education Offices (ZEOs) in the hill districts of Manipur on Saturday.
As per the sources, around 15 youth’s volunteers of ATSUM closed down a zonal education office (ZEO) in Churachandpur district since Saturday. Reports of shutting down of other ZEO offices in Ukhrul and other hill districts were also reported here.
Another office in Ukhrul district has been also locked down since Saturday afternoon from around 4 pm.
Meanwhile, ATSUM launched the stir protesting against the state education department’s move to digitize all service books of its rank and files at the education directorate in Imphal. The tribal-based student body is demanding decentralization of the digitization process at the respective ZEO offices and not at the directorate education (school) office in Imphal. ATSUM announced to go ahead with its proposed stir of shutting down ZEO offices across the hill districts with immediate effect on Friday.
It may be mentioned that the students’ body clarified that it was not against the process of digitization. “But the method applied for an effective process was filled with perils as printing mistakes on the part of the computer operators will seriously affect those individuals whose names or records are misprinted,” it said.
Earlier, Indian Medical Association (IMA) declared January 2 as a “black day” for medical practitioners all over the country and the state branch staged a sit-in-protest yesterday at IMA house, Lamphelpat.
The doctors staged the protest by holding placards that read “NMC is costly education, costly treatment to people we reject NMC”, “NMC is against poor people NMC is undemocratic”, “one IMA one voice no NMC” and others.
