On the voting day of Meghalaya, five early voters received medals from the Election Commission Officials of the state. This initiative is taken by the ECI in order to motivate voters to exercise their franchise.
An initiative to recognize the importance of voting
The Election Commission has come up with various initiatives in order to motivate the voters to use their voting power. In this series, ECI has come up with the idea of awarding early voters with a medal.
As per Election Commission Official, Kharkongor, “this is to motivate more voters and appreciate their mandate, the first five early voters of every polling station will receive medals for being early to recognize the importance of their vote and the day.”
Under this, a young voter from Jyntah Block, Mawryngkneng Constituency named Shweta Rajkawar received a medal from the Election Commission along with other early voters in the state.
67 Pink Polling booths
In the list of ‘Firsts’ of Meghalaya comes the 67 Pink Polling Booths the Election Commission has established are solely dedicated to the female voters of the state.
These Pink Booths are solely made to facilitate the Females of the state, who find it difficult to go out and vote.
Meghalaya is having 67 Pink Booths or Women Polling Stations helping the women voters of the state to cast their vote at an ease.
All these booths are managed all by women staff, from polling officials to security personnel.
This pink polling booth is set up to empower women and increase their participation in the poll process.
