Imphal: Another rape incident took the place in the state where a minor girl reportedly was set afire after being allegedly gang-raped by three men in Manipur on Friday. The girl was set ablaze because she complained to the police against the culprits, sources informed.
According to the victim’s family members, the three accused were troubling her for the last 3-4 months.
Meanwhile, an FIR has been lodged and the investigation is underway, a police official said.
Last week, a 15-year-old cancer survivor was allegedly gang-raped by two youths in Sarojini Nagar area. She was again raped by one person whom she asked for help. The incident took place on December 8 when the girl had gone out to meet an acquaintance, reports added.
Manipur and Mizoram, however, recorded a slide in crimes against women with the incident rate in the former falling to 285 from 304 while the latter saw it drop from 199 to 177. Assam heads the list of all recorded crimes against women, including rape, kidnapping and abduction, dowry deaths and cruelty by husband and his relatives. Mizoram was the only state in the region, which witnessed a drop in rape cases, with such incidents coming down to 89 from 103 the year before, a report said.
