- NIA summons former CM TR Zeliang in the ‘Tax Collection’ and ‘Extortion’ matter

Former Chief Minister of Nagaland, TR Zeliang is under the radar of National Investigation Agency(NIA). The agency has summoned Zeliang and asked him to appear in the national capital on March 13. An investigation is going on the alleged Tax Collection and Extortion matter of the state during NPF rule.
Zeliang’s OSD and other two were summoned before elections
The former Chief Minister of Nagaland and the Naga People’s Front(NPF) ace leader TR Zeliang is summoned by the National Investigation Agency as his name has surfaced in a matter related to Tax Collection and Extortion.
The Agency has asked the leader to appear before the NIA officials in the National Capital on March 13.
The NIA has also directed the former Chief Minister to bring all the documents pertaining to the illegal payments.
This is not the first time when NIA has summoned any minister from the state, as prior to the elections, NIA summoned the three former ministers from the state cabinet including one Officer on Special Duty(OSD) Ruokuovizo, and two public relation officers, Karibo and Kuirang.
As per the sources, the departments under the radar of NIA include the Directorate of Information Technology, Directorate of Irrigation, Directorate of Rural Development, Directorate of Urban Development, PWD, Roads and Buildings, Directorate of Soil and Water Conservation and Directorate of Information and Public Relations.
Later the questioning of these former ministers, another name that has surfaced in the matter is of the former CM TR Zeliang that is said to be involved in the transfer of government funds for illegal matters like extortion in the state and others, his name is surfaced in National Socialist Council of Nagaland (Khaplang).
Therefore, Zeliang has been summoned by the Agency and he will have to appear before the officials on March 13 as a round of questioning will take place and the officials will ask related questions in order to attain more clarity.
National Investigation Agency(NIA) is probing into the matter related to alleged “tax collection” and “extortion” from state government departments by banned Naga insurgent groups of Nagaland.
As NIA has arrested four Nagaland government officers last year with the charges of providing Rs 20 crore in just four days to the banned insurgent group NSCN(K) by sharing with the outfit funds from the state exchequer.
The matter came to light and the agency summoned the three top officials from the state government allegedly involved in the act including the Officer on Special Duty(OSD).
Now, the name of former Chief Minister TR Zeliang has surfaced in the matter and NIA has summoned the leader of NPF to present himself before the NIA officials in the national capital on March 13 for helping the agency in further probing the matter.
